Fuji Women's University,
Japanese Intensive Course 2004 |
 |
| With the support of many individual,
Japanese intensive course at Fuji Women's University was held from June
28th to July 23rd 2004. The participants were 5 students from the Catholic
University of Korea, who majored in Japanese language and culture, 4 students
from Fu Jen Catholic University at Taiwan, who majored in Japanese language
and literature, and a student from Chinese Culture University who knew of
this course through our website. Their proficiency in Japanese was very
good, however, they acquired a much better command of Japanese through their
intensive participation in our month-long course. |
The
classes started at 9:00 every morning, Monday-Friday and continued to 13:00.
They focused on grammar, reading, hearing, speaking and composition. In
the afternoon, the students did their homework or joined a club activity
here at the University and they spent time with Japanese volunteers. They
experienced traditional Japanese culture by attending the tea ceremony club,
flower arrangement club, Kimono club and Japanese harp (Koto) club. They
also discussed Japanese contemporary pop culture at the literature club
and comic/animation club with Japanese students. They explained that as
many comics are translated into various Asian languages, quite a few young
people in their countries had been familiar with those comics since they
were children. In addition, they attended the English musical club, which
has already become a tradition at Fuji Women's University. A video show
of last year's performance amazed them so much. During
the course, students participated in a "Program for Japanese Experiences." This
included a tour of the historical village of Hokkaido where they learned
about some of the history of Hokkaido. On another day, they went to the
city of Otaru, where they visited the site of for a Japanese movie that
was popular in Korea and they took photographs in many places. Two seminar
classes about the Japanese Kimono, as well as the origin of Japanese language,
were specially arranged for them. To know the origin of the language through
the Japanese student's demonstration of calligraphy seemed to be an interesting
experience for the participants. Cooking class on our Hanakawa campus also
gave them the opportunity to learn how to cook Japanese dishes such as "Norimaki
(rolled sushi)" and "Ann-mitsu(Japanese sweets with bean jam and
jelly)" . In return, they taught Japanese students how to cook food
from their own country, such as "shuijiao (meat pie in soup)" of
Taiwan and "Toppogi (stir-fried rice cake)" of Korea.
Outside of class, they were very grateful to have a positive experience
of Japanese family life at the homes of students and graduates of Fuji.
We would like to thank everyone who supported this program and played
a role
in its success through their support. |
